· comfort category and range:
A - basic :
Accommodation with thatched roof (capsules and simple rooms). Common bathroom.
B - standard :
Rooms in brick with concrete or tiled roof. Common bathroom. Rooms may have a fan. Some include access to a shared kitchen.
C - good :
Rooms with attached bathroom. All rooms have fans. A few have air conditioning. Some include access to a shared kitchen
D - self-contained :
Accommodation or studio with attached bathroom and kitchen or kitchenette. Often with a veranda, balcony or garden. All rooms have fans. A few have air conditioning.
· screening:
Screening refers to the room's potential to keep insects and reptiles outside guest accommodation. A mosquito net, available at a vast majority of accommodations can, of course, only keep insects out of your sleeping area if used properly.
· ventilation:
Fans are commonly available, except in capsules.

They can be “western” seat-type or Indian squat-type. They can be either in the same building as the accommodation (exclusive or shared, attached or separate) or at some distance (shared).

Bathing or washing facilities are either inside the accommodation, or outside it. They take the form of shower, rarely an accompanying tub. Hot water, where available, is either by pipe, or bucket.
· electricity:
12 volt indicates the exclusive use of solar panels and the need for special electrical appliances. Some guest houses have generator back-up during powercuts.
· meals:
Range from none at all to various combinations of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some guest houses offer common kitchen facilities.
· laundry / bicycle:
sometimes no, sometimes included, sometimes at extra cost.
